If you’re not using social media for business, you’re making a mistake.
Close to 70 percent of American adults use Facebook. Nearly 50 percent use Twitter. Almost 75 percent are regular visitors to YouTube.
You can see why advertising your brand across these channels could help you reach a bigger audience, but what if you don’t know where to start?
Our team of Orange County digital marketing experts have put together the following four tips for success. Take a look!
Know who you’re targeting
In the world of PPC, you can’t afford to waste money targeting the wrong people. It’s no use attracting users to click your ads and visit your landing page only to have them leave when they realize you have nothing to offer them.
Social media is home to a huge diversity of people, but you have to pick your demographics carefully. Are you aiming for business owners? How about teenagers who love to stream media and play video games?
Perhaps you want to engage middle-aged people with lots of disposable income, or young professionals looking to get on the property ladder?
Defining your target audience is critical to build your brand. Once you settle on your ideal users, you can start creating personas and figure out how best to pique their interest.
Put real thought into your images
Pictures can mean all the difference between attracting clicks and being overlooked.
Posting images has been shown to increase engagement considerably, particularly on Facebook. For example, one study found that photos grouped together in albums attracted over 12.9 times more clicks than those displayed individually.
You have to make sure your pictures of a high standard too. If you don’t have the budget or the means to create your own, any stock images should be the best you can find. Avoid ones featured on countless other sites.
Use Custom Audiences for refined targeting
Facebook’s Custom Audiences tool lets you target a specific kind of audience created from a pool of existing customers. This is an effective way to reach people you know are more likely to visit your site and convert, rather than aiming for a wider range of users.
Lookalike Audiences is similar, offering more refined targeting. Likewise, Twitter’s Tailored Audiences gives you the ability to target existing users across multiple types of audiences.
Dive into A/B testing to get things right
A/B testing is a fairly simple way to find the strongest version of an ad.
Create multiple variations and run them for a week or two. These might feature different images and text, but cover the same theme and direct users to the same landing page. You can look at the analytics for both ads once the testing period ends and ascertain which has the higher number of interactions.
You know which ad to keep running, but also have a helpful insight into future ads too. Look at the tone of voice, keywords, picture and overall style in the best version and apply these to forthcoming ads.
